Catherine Parenteau Announces End of Partnership with Anna Leigh Waters

by Erik Tice on

Update:

According to multiple sources, Anna Bright and Anna Leigh Waters will be partnering together for the remainder of the 2025 year on the PPA Tour.

This is a developing story; we will update as new information becomes available.

According to Catherine Parenteau’s Instagram post, the winningest women’s duo in PPA Tour history is officially done.

Parenteau and Waters started their partnership in early 2023. At that time, Waters played some with Parenteau and some with Anna Bright, before eventually choosing to play with Parenteau over Bright.

Some stats about the winningest partnership in women’s doubles history:

  • They end their partnership with a record of 155-6, for a 96.3% winning percentage
  • Won 40 matches in a row
  • Won 31 titles together
  • Were the #1 seed on the PPA Tour for over a year and a half

Where do they both go from here?

There is time to make that decision, as the Veolia PPA Atlanta Championships (Slam) begin on May 12th.

The easiest/most seamless change

The easiest partners for both Catherine and Anna Leigh would just be a partner swap.

Catherine could play with Rachel Rohrabacher. This would be a Selkirk partnership and both ladies can play both sides. This makes sense, especially halfway through the 2025 year, when many partnerships are already set.

Anna Leigh and Anna Bright have already won seven gold medals together and didn't end their partnership poorly. I have Anna Bright as my second best woman in doubles right now, so this makes a ton of sense.

The Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher partnership hasn't won gold in five months, and things might be getting stale. This partner swap just makes the most sense, especially in the short term.

Other Options

For Catherine:

  • Jade Kawamoto - Jade is Catherine's MLP teammate and usually changes partners fairly regularly. They get along great and could be a good fit, although they've never paired up on the PPA Tour.
  • Jackie Kawamoto - Jackie prefers the left side in women's doubles, but can play the right. Jackie gets along with pretty much everyone, so maybe Catherine switches up playing with each of the twins?
  • Parris Todd - Parris has been playing so well in doubles lately and has been switching partners up a bit. Catherine and Parris won The Vulcan Tournament of Champions together in August 2023.

For Anna Leigh Waters:

  • Jorja Johnson - 'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!' Yes, it was just one match, but Jorja plays a super fiery right side and can match Anna Leigh's energy. She can play the left side too, if a switch up is needed.
  • Hurricane Tyra Black - I have seen this name mentioned a bunch, and I could see it, but I think it is lessl likely. Tyra much prefers the left side in gender doubles and is not as good on the right. Where is Anna Leigh her best? On the left side. While I think they could win, I just don't see this one right now.
  • Parris Todd - Parris is one of the fiercest competitors on tour and her results in doubles continue to get better.
