One of the fun things about the US Open Pickleball Championships is that it's, well, open to everyone. During last week's US Open, players from around the world showed up to showcase their pickleball skills.
Reportedly, 31 countries from around the world were represented among the 4,800 players who competed at the Open, the most ever participants for the event.
One of those countries was India – and, boy, did they represent well.
Indian athletes score double-digit medals
According to Social News XYZ, Indian pickleball athletes won 10 medals – three golds, three silvers, and four bronzes – in singles, gender, mixed, and junior doubles tournaments.
"This is without a doubt one of the biggest Pickleball Championships in the world and to be able to come back with 10 medals is testament to the growth of serious pickleball talent in India. I am happy to be able to win the Gold in the Men’s Singles 3.5 category and look forward to continued results.
"Congratulations to the entire contingent and as a partner at Global Sports, we are extremely proud to be doing our bit and are confident for bigger medal hauls in the upcoming events," said Hemal Jain, who won a gold in Men's Singles 3.5.
Arman Bhatia, who came in 5th in Men's Pro Doubles (with his partner Harsh Mehta), shared some of what he's learned recently on the US Open Instagram account:
Pickleball's global domination continues
If you've been following our coverage for any length of time, this shouldn't come as a surprise. We've published stories about pickleball spreading across Asia and Africa, and we even told you about the six-continent Pickleball World Series, expected to launch soon.
We also spoke with APP CMO Tom Webb on the PicklePod about pickleball spreading across the world.
Congrats to those Indian athletes and everyone else at the Open last week. You can read a recap of the US Open Championships pro events here:
We hope this is a sign of pickleball players doubling or even tripling across the planet over the next couple of years.
