Liz Truluck Checks In With The Dink One Final Time After a Successful MLP Australia Debut
Editor's Note: Liz Truluck, currently ranked 39th in Women's Doubles, 33rd in Mixed Doubles and 18th in Women's Singles on the PPA Tour, documented her trip Down Under for The Dink playing for the Fast Fours in MLP Australia.
What an incredible week Down Under.
I had such an amazing time competing in the MLP Australia Gold Coast for the first time.
I couldn’t be more proud of my team the Fast Fours (George Wall, Lucas Pascoe, and Jamie Wei) for how we finished out, taking silver overall for the MLPA Gold Coast event.
Hats off to the South East Asia Surge (Pei Chuan Kao, Hsieh Yu-Chieh, Leander Lazaro, and Marcel Chan) for winning gold. They all played very smart and stepped it up in the finals.
My team played very well Saturday night to secure our semifinal spot, and then finished with a 3-0 sweep against the Gold Coast Glory in the semis the following day.
On the other side of the semis, the Surge took down the Western Vipers, 3-1, to secure a spot in the finals. In the gold medal match, the Surge came out firing for women’s doubles and took the initial team point. Our boys – George Wall and Lucas Pascoe – really put up a fight to take the men’s match, making the score tied at 1-1.
We battled to keep the momentum running in mixed, but unfortunately we didn’t have enough in our tanks to take the remaining matches. The Surge took the title 3-1.
Although it didn’t end the way we had hoped, I truly had such a blast sharing the court with George, Lucas and Jamie. They are all stud players and genuine, down-to-earth people. They each stepped it up this weekend when needed and made this event such an unforgettable one.
The pickleball community at the MLPA is truly unique. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to compete with such talented players in such a beautiful locale.
Huge congrats to all the teams this weekend for great play and for the passion out there on the courts. The MLPA and PPA Australia staff did a great job organizing this event from the setup, referees, commentary and everything in between.
We’ll catch you next time for the second MLPA event in Vietnam October 18-20!
