Christmas came early to Omaha, Nebraska this year, courtesy of the pickleball community.
Earlier this year, The Dink teamed up with the Firework Foundation and The Picklr for the biggest giveaway in pickleball history. We gave away an entire first-class pickleball facility to a city voted on by fans.
The giveaway was so huge, that we even got Katy Perry involved in announcing it (huge pickleball player by the way).
With state-of-the-art pickleball courts, top-notch coaching, and a vibrant pickleball community built into each Picklr location, this is a major value-add to a region that demanded more pickle.
The Shortlisted Cities
Using a bracket-style elimination, the top 32 locations were narrowed down to four finalists:
- Anchorage, Alaska
- Lake Forest, California
- Quincy, Illinois
- Omaha, Nebraska
These final cities generated local voter drives and media campaigns in hopes of winning the online contest, which received more than 20,000 votes and garnered over 5.2 million views on social media.
The Picklr location in Omaha will be Nebraska's first dedicated indoor pickleball facility.
It will transform Omaha's pickleball scene by providing a built-in community for players and access to professional-level indoor courts, making the sport available year-round.
Scott Francis took the lead on the Omaha campaign and said "You will not find a community that loves sports, particularly pickleball, more than Omaha...We can't wait to welcome The Picklr."
Once a location is selected and secured, The Picklr plans on opening the Omaha facility within six months.
