Pickleball Finds Its Way Into Judge Steve Harvey's Courtroom Yet Again

by Jason Flamm on

If you're a fan of courtroom drama shows and pickleball, a recent episode of Judge Steve Harvey must've felt like Christmas.

The July 17th episode featured two North Carolina pickleball players caught in a disagreement when Vance Remick accused Mesa Somer of defamation of character and fraud for allegedly spreading rumors about his 'unethical' behavior on-court.

In response, Somer was countersuing Remick for his 'vicious' style of play, which is 'dangerous' in a recreational setting.

USA Pickleball, JOOLA Saga Headed for Courtroom
The JOOLA Gen 3 paddle saga continues. One day after USA Pickleball confirmed that the paddles are not approved, JOOLA responded and hinted at taking legal action. A class action lawsuit has also been filed in Florida against JOOLA.

As expected, the whole thing was pretty silly. Anything to inject the 'pickleball craze' into TV ratings.

You can see a sneak peek of the episode here:

And watch the full episode on the ABC website.

This was not the first time pickleball was the subject of a case on Harvey's show.

Season One featured an episode where pickleball was becoming a problem between a husband and wife.

Spoiler alert: Judge Harvey dismisses both suits.

He left viewers with a lesson that some pickleballers need to remember:

If you’re a lower-level player facing a higher-level player, expect to get your butt whooped.

For the record, a great way to improve is to play better players. Losing matches will show you what you need to work on. But beware ‘bangers,’ you too could be the subject of a lawsuit because you hit the ball too hard.

Maybe we can start a petition to get JOOLA and USA Pickleball into Harvey's courtroom for next season.
