PPA Austin Men's & Women's Doubles Live Blog

After a quick mixed doubles day we are in for the long haul with men's and women's doubles today. Riley Newman and Matt Wright will look to go back-to-back in the men's doubles division. Lucy Kovalova and Callie Smith will be looking to take back the women's title after not partnering at the PPA Riverland Open.

Dekel Bar and DJ Young are the team to look out for in this field. Half of the 'Dream Team' from Dreamland, these two don't have many results together but are training together on the daily. I don't see them getting past the cousin duo of AJ Koller and Thomas Wilson but if they keep getting reps in, they can take down some major teams.

Women Doubles Getting Started

The ladies have started play. Look for their matches to hit center court soon.

The Johns bros can't help but come out slow in the quarters and again in the semifinals. They give the other teams a little hope maybe even the first game. Then they pull the rug and go on a 19-0 point streak. They advance to Championship Sunday with the win over Pat Smith/Rob Cassidy.

We had another battle of Wright/Newman vs Koller Wilson in the other semifinal. The wind seemed to be the biggest factor in the first two games as they were split 11-5, 1-11. Wright/Newman were able to overcome the wind after building a mssive 6-0 before changing to the 'bad side'. The lead was too much to overcome and they won the last one 11-4.

The Waters take care of business in two games. They beat Irvine/Parenteau to advance to Championship Sunday where they will face Kovalova/Smith in a best of 5.
