Selkirk Sport Partners with the Parkinson’s Foundation for Awareness Month
The pickleball community is the best.
If you need proof of that, look no further than what one of the leading brands in pickleball is doing with its platform throughout the month of April.
Selkirk Sport is partnering with the Parkinson's Foundation to promote exercise and wellness throughout Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month. Together, they hope to use pickleball to bring awareness to individuals grappling with Parkinson's disease.
Driven by the findings of the Parkinson's Outcomes Project, which emphasizes the pivotal role of exercise in enhancing mobility, flexibility, and balance and alleviating non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's patients, this initiative strives to make a lasting impact.
The project's research shows that those who engage in a minimum of 2.5 hours of exercise weekly during the early stages of Parkinson's experience a notably slower decline in their quality of life.
Scott Rider, an ambassador for the Parkinson's Foundation and a devoted pickleball enthusiast, emphasizes, "Pickleball is not merely about physical exertion; it embodies connection, joy, and community. Through our collaboration with Selkirk Sport, the Parkinson's Foundation extends a lively avenue for individuals affected by Parkinson's to remain active, enhance their well-being, and forge meaningful connections."
Throughout Parkinson's Awareness Month, Selkirk Sport will sponsor pickleball events and clinics tailored to support those with Parkinson's disease. Individuals organizing pickleball events or clinics in solidarity with Parkinson's disease are encouraged to apply for Selkirk Sport sponsorship, encompassing pickleball equipment and giveaways.
Mike Barnes, co-founder and co-CEO of Selkirk Sport, affirms their profound dedication to expanding the reach of pickleball and harnessing its unique advantages to bolster various communities.
"Our collaboration with the Parkinson's Foundation underscores this commitment, offering us a remarkable opportunity to effect positive change. We firmly believe in the transformative power of pickleball, not only as an enjoyable and inclusive form of exercise but also as a catalyst for fostering belonging and enhancing the overall quality of life for those grappling with Parkinson's."
